Through our unique partnership with the University of New England, there may be a pathway to study at UNE or another university of your choice, while building practical, job-ready skills that employers value.

Students can choose from a range of ATAR-eligible courses, allowing you to pursue your interests while keeping your options open. Our flexible delivery methods mean you can balance your VET studies with your regular school workload, ensuring you get the most out of both programs.

Our UNE Partnerships’ Student Support Team is committed to ensuring student success! The team supports VET in Schools students through any challenges such as completing enrolments or accessing their online resources. Our dedicated and passionate team are always ready to help.

Work Placements:

Work placements are a key part of VET in Schools program, giving you the opportunity to experience real workplaces and explore potential career pathways. By applying what you’ve learnt in the classroom in a real workplace, you’ll build up confidence, develop industry awareness, and strengthen important workplace soft skills such as communication, teamwork and professionalism. It’s a valuable step in helping you to feel more prepared for further study, training or employment.

All placements are carefully coordinated to ensure a safe and appropriate environment for students. Workplaces are assessed for suitability, and your are supported throughout your placement by your educator and and a Work Placement Service Provider.

Students are covered by NSW Department of Education insurance for the duration of your placement, providing reassurance for you and your host employer in the event of any incidents.

How Your Work Placement Can Be Sourced

Your work placement is a key part of your course experience, giving you the chance to build real skills, gain confidence, and explore your future career. You’re supported every step of the way, with multiple pathways to help you find the right opportunity.

  • Professional Work Placement Providers 
    Work Placement Service Providers (contracted by the Department of Education) are contracted to help find a suitable local placements. They work with local businesses, UNE Partnerships and your school to help identify and matching you with the right opportunity.
  • Start with your own network
    Depending on your career aspirations, you are encouraged to exploring opportunities through your own connections. This could include family, friends, or local businesses you already know. Reaching out is a great way to build confidence, find the placement that best suits your focus area and take ownership of your career pathway.
  • Your school can also help 
    Your school can also support by promoting the need for local work placements through the school community network via newsletters, and social media posts.
  • We connect you with industry
    UNE Partnerships works with a wide range of industry partners and employers. We help identify quality work placements that align with your course, so you gain relevant, real-world experience.

Finding a work placement isn’t something you have to do alone. With support from your area’s Work Placement Service Provider, UNE Partnerships and your school, plus your own initiative, you’ll be well placed to secure meaningful and rewarding experiences.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s)

If you choose to sit the HSC exam for a VET course, the exam results can contribute to your Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR). You are not automatically enrolled for the HSC exam in VET courses. You need to talk to your School Career Advisor to make sure they are aware of your intention to sit the exam.

Yes, we offer flexible work placement arrangements that can be completed during school holidays or throughout the term, depending on your school’s preferences and course requirements.

Each course has specific work placement hours – please check the course details or ask your School Career Adviser. It’s important to understand that to complete the course, the Work Placement hours are compulsory and failing to complete hours may result in not achieving the qualification.

Yes absolutely in fact we encourage students to source their own placemen from their community and contacts.

Yes, most workplaces have pre-requirement that need to be meet and we will work with your school to make sure that you have all the information you need to be ready for your work placement. Some requirements include:

  • Identification
  • Compulsory vaccinations and immunisations
  • COVID vaccinations, most cases 2 shots, some require 3
  • Up to date Flu vaccination
  • National Police Check
  • The Working with Children Check (WWCC)
  • NDIS Worker Screening Checks
