Start your career while you earn

A traineeship gives you the opportunity to build practical skills, gain valuable workplace experience and achieve a nationally recognised qualification, all while earning an income. Whether you’re starting a new job, changing careers or your employer has suggested a traineeship, it’s a practical way to develop your skills while you work.

At UNE Partnerships, you’ll be supported by an experienced trainer who understands your industry and works with you throughout your qualification, helping you build the confidence and skills to succeed in your role.

Eligible traineeships may be government subsidised. In many cases, employers choose to cover any remaining student contribution fee. Funding, eligibility and available qualifications vary by state. Course availability and traineeship funding can vary by state. Why choose a traineeship?

A traineeship combines paid employment with structured learning, allowing you to develop skills that are directly relevant to your job. Instead of studying first and gaining experience later, you’ll learn in the workplace while building a qualification that is recognised across Australia.

A traineeship can help you to:

  • Earn while you learn
  • Gain practical skills and workplace experience
  • Achieve a nationally recognised qualification
  • Build confidence in your role
  • Create opportunities for career progression or further study

What a traineeship includes?

Every traineeship is designed around your job, so your learning is relevant, practical and immediately applicable in the workplace. You’ll receive structured training, regular support and the opportunity to put your new skills into practice every day.

Your traineeship includes:

  • Paid employment in a real workplace
  • A nationally recognised qualification
  • Flexible online learning with UNE Partnerships
  • Support from an experienced trainer throughout your qualification
  • Practical learning linked directly to your role

Is a traineeship right for you?

A traineeship may be a good fit if you’re looking to build your skills while working, rather than stepping away from employment to study. It’s suitable for people starting a new role or about to change careers.

Generally, traineeships are available to people who:

  • You are 15 years or older and no longer at school
  • Have recently started a new role (typically within the first three months for full-time employees or within the first 12 months for part-time employees, depending on state requirements)
  • You are an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible visa holder
  • You meet state-based requirements (NSW or QLD)

If you’re unsure whether you’re eligible, our team can help you understand your options.

FAQs

Training is designed to fit around your work commitments, with flexible online learning and practical activities linked to your role. Your trainer will help you plan your learning so you can balance work and study.

Like any qualification, a traineeship requires commitment. You’ll need to complete your learning and assessments, apply your new skills in the workplace, communicate with your trainer and stay engaged throughout the program. The more you put into your traineeship, the more you’ll get out of it.

When you successfully complete your traineeship, you’ll receive a nationally recognised qualification along with valuable workplace experience and practical skills that can help you progress in your current role, apply for new opportunities or continue your studies.

Most learning is completed online and integrated with your workplace, allowing you to build your skills while continuing to work. Your trainer will guide you through the learning and assessment requirements.
