Celebrating Allied Health Professions Day 2026

Most of us won’t think about them until we need them. And when we do, they change everything.

This Allied Health Professions Day, the theme is Allied health: For everyone, everywhere, and it’s a fitting one.

What is allied health?

Allied health is a broad group of health professions that support people to recover, stay well and live independently. Allied health professionals are the physiotherapists who help someone take their first steps after surgery, the speech pathologists who help a stroke survivor find their words, and the occupational therapists who make it possible to return home. They are also the podiatrists, radiographers, dietitians, exercise physiologists, audiologists, social workers and many others whose work rarely makes headlines.

How do allied health professionals care for patients?

Their care looks at the whole person, not just the condition. It asks not only what is wrong? but what matters to you, and how do we get you back to it? It is measured in small victories: a steadier walk, a clearer sentence, a meal enjoyed without pain.

Recovery doesn’t end at the hospital door. In clinics, homes, schools, workplaces and aged care facilities, from our biggest cities to our most remote towns, allied health professionals help people prevent illness, rehabilitate after setbacks and keep their independence.

Allied Health Assistants and support workers work alongside them every day, and their contribution makes quality care possible. Behind the skill is something harder to measure: compassion, patience and the resilience to show up again tomorrow for the next person who needs them.

Who are the allied health educators at UNE Partnerships?

Behind every confident Allied Health Assistant is someone who taught them how. Our educators are allied health professionals themselves, and they bring real clinical experience into every class, placement and conversation.

This Allied Health Professions Day, we want to say thank you. You teach the skills, but you also model the compassion, patience and teamwork that make allied health what it is. Our students carry that into every community they work in.

Thank you, from UNE Partnerships

“We recognise the essential work allied health professionals do to improve wellbeing across every setting — from hospitals and community services to schools, aged care and remote practice. As Training Manager – Health Programs at UNE Partnerships, I want to thank the AHPs we work alongside, and especially those who take the time to support our Allied Health Assistant students. By sharing your expertise and modelling person-centred, team-based care, you’re not just helping students complete placement — you’re strengthening a future workforce in Allied Health that can deliver better outcomes for all communities.”
— Kaye Amos-Fleming, Training Manager – Health Programs, UNE Partnerships

Thank you to every allied health professional, and the teams who support them, for the care, skill and heart you bring. Your work matters. And so do you.
