Building Aged Care Capability Through International Partnership
UNE Partnerships has been creating educational opportunities that improve lives, strengthen industries and support communities for more than 40 years. As one of Australia’s most experienced Registered Training Organisations, we recognise that workforce challenges often require innovative and collaborative solutions that extend beyond borders.
One example is our work in Indonesia, where UNE Partnerships is delivering Australian vocational education and training to experienced healthcare professionals seeking to develop their aged care knowledge and skills to Australian standards.
Together, UNE Partnerships, Living Well Seniors Communities, and Binawan University have created a unique model that combines Australian vocational education with real-world aged care experience, ensuring graduates develop both the technical skills and person-centred approach required to support older people with dignity, respect and compassion.
“At UNE Partnerships, we believe quality education can be a powerful force for positive change. Our partnership with Living Well and Binawan demonstrates how education and industry can work together to address workforce challenges while creating meaningful opportunities for individuals and communities. By sharing Australian aged care expertise in Indonesia, we are helping to build capability, strengthen professional pathways and contribute to better outcomes for older people both now and into the future.” Ben Gilmore, Chief Executive Officer, UNE Partnerships
Through this initiative, UNE Partnerships is helping to build aged care capability, share Australian expertise, and create meaningful career pathways for healthcare professionals while supporting the future workforce needs of the aged care sector.
The Indonesian Aged Care Program is delivered by UNE Partnerships in collaboration with Living Well Seniors Communities, an Australian-owned aged care provider operating in Indonesia. Living Well brings extensive expertise in aged care service delivery and plays a critical role in supporting students through supervised workplace learning experiences, industry mentoring and graduate employment pathways.
The program enables Indonesian students to complete the nationally recognised CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing), a qualification issued by UNE Partnerships and recognised throughout Australia.
The initiative combines Australian vocational education, practical workplace experience and industry engagement to prepare graduates with the knowledge, skills and understanding required to deliver person-centred aged care services aligned with Australian quality standards and practices.
Living Well Seniors Communities supports the program by providing supervised work placement opportunities and graduate employment pathways, helping students gain practical experience in contemporary aged care environments.
“This partnership demonstrates what can be achieved when education and industry work together with a shared purpose. These graduates bring both clinical capability and genuine compassion to aged care. Through this program we are helping to develop a workforce that understands the importance of dignity, empathy and person-centred care for older people.” Benjamin Cass, President Director, Living Well Seniors Communities
Australia has developed one of the world’s most sophisticated aged care systems, underpinned by strong quality standards, workforce capability frameworks and person-centred care principles.
UNE Partnerships believes there is significant value in sharing this expertise internationally.
The program introduces learners to Australian approaches to aged care, including:
Students complete 15 nationally recognised units of competency and undertake a mandatory 120-hour practical placement experience, enabling them to apply their learning in a real-world aged care setting.
Like many developed nations, Australia faces increasing demand for skilled aged care workers as its population ages.
While the primary purpose of the program is educational, it also contributes to broader workforce sustainability by creating a pipeline of qualified professionals who understand Australian aged care standards and can contribute to the sector where employment opportunities arise.
The program demonstrates how education, industry and international partnerships can work together to address complex workforce challenges while creating positive social and economic outcomes for individuals and communities.
For many participants, the program represents more than a qualification. It provides an opportunity to develop professionally, gain international experience and contribute to improving the quality of life for older people.
UNE Partnerships is proud to support learners as they build their skills and confidence, and to work alongside industry partners who share our commitment to improving aged care outcomes.
Following the successful graduation of the inaugural cohorts, UNE Partnerships continues to work with partners in Indonesia to further develop and expand the program.
Additional cohorts are currently undertaking training, creating ongoing opportunities for healthcare professionals to gain Australian qualifications while contributing to the future capability of the aged care sector.
Through collaboration, innovation and a shared commitment to quality care, UNE Partnerships remains focused on supporting workforce development and creating pathways that benefit learners, industry and communities alike.
