The Diploma of Leadership in Healthcare Practice has been designed by practice managers for practice managers. This contemporary course builds upon 30 years of collaboration between UNE Partnerships and AAPM, with a strong focus on continuous improvement, customer service, patient-centred care, and emerging trends in the sector.

Our course aims to help practice managers lead successful and sustainable medical practices in an increasingly dynamic healthcare environment. Course Duration

The estimated time to complete this course is:

  • 17 hours per week over a study period up to 2 years.

Entry Requirements

There are no entry requirements for this qualification. However, we recommend that you have:

  • Experience managing teams or business operations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Previously complete Year 12 or a Certificate IV level qualification.
  • Appropriate technology to study online
  • The motivation to learn independently.

  • 11293NAT Diploma of Leadership in Healthcare Practice is a NRT qualification recognised across Australia.
  • On successful completion of the 12 units of competency in this course, you will be issued with an Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) Certificate and Record of Results.

    Successful students can also apply for credit towards AQF qualifications available through UNE Partnerships and other RTOs in accordance with relevant Training Package qualification packaging rules and recognition requirements. The amount of credit varies depending on individual units completed within this qualification. Options include:

The Australian Association of Practice Management (AAPM)

  • 100 AAPM Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points are recognised  by AAPM upon full completion of this qualification. AAPM members can claim 100 CPD points for successful completion of this qualification.

    Graduates also meet the qualification requirement for Certified Practice Manager status with the Australian Association of Practice Management (AAPM).

    BSBHRM415 Coordinate recruitment and onboarding

    • In this unit you will develop knowledge of the key provisions of relevant legislation, regulations, standards and codes of practice that affect employment agencies and organisation’s recruiting processes as well as common interview techniques and recruitment sourcing methods and strategies to provide feedback to candidates according to organisational procedures.

    BSBLDR522 Manage people performance

    • In this unit you will develop the knowledge for legislative and regulatory and organisational requirements for performance management and review, how to develop an organisational risk management and human resource support services plan and how to develop organisational performance measurement systems. You will also cover the key features of unlawful dismissal rules and due process.

    BSBLDR602 Provide leadership across the organisation

    • Learn the skills and knowledge required to demonstrate senior leadership behavior and personal and professional competence. Business ethics are also addressed in this unit. The unit applies to those who have a role in modeling professionalism in their organisation and industry and inspiring and motivating others to achieve organisational goals. Leadership is seen in the context of the organisational mission.
      • BSBOPS504 Manage business risk

        • Learn the skills and knowledge required to manage business risks in a range of contexts across an organisation or for a specific business unit or area in any industry setting. The unit applies to those who are working in positions of authority and who are approved to implement change across the organisation, business unit, program, or project area, and may or may not have responsibility for directly supervising others.
        • CHCLEG003 Manage legal and ethical compliance

          • Learn the skills and knowledge required to research information about compliance and ethical practice responsibilities, and then develop and monitor policies and procedures to meet those responsibilities. This unit applies to those working in roles with managerial responsibility for legal and ethical compliance in small to medium-sized organisations. There may or may not be a team of workers involved.

          SIRXCEG004 Create a customer centric culture

          • Develop the knowledge for the principles of quality customer service, understand the commercial impact of poor customer service and how to manage positive and negative customer reviews as well as the value and role of customer feedback in improving service delivery.

          BSBFIN501 Manage budgets and financial plans

          • Learn the skills and knowledge required to undertake financial management in an organisation or work area. It includes planning and implementing financial management approaches and supporting and evaluating the effectiveness of financial management processes. This unit applies to managers in a wide range of organisations and sectors who have responsibility for the effective use of financial resources within work teams. They are responsible for ensuring that financial resources are managed in line with the financial objectives of the team and organisation.

          BSBPEF502 Develop and use emotional intelligence

          • Learn the skills and knowledge required to develop and use emotional intelligence to increase self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and relationship management in the workplace. This unit applies to those who are required to identify, analyse, synthesise and act on information from a range of sources and who deal with unpredictable problems as part of their job role, and may be responsible for leading a team or work area.

          PUAMAN006 Manage and facilitate change

          • Develop knowledge on change management models and tools, change management processes and principles and the methods of communicating change to stakeholders. Learn how organisational documentation related to change management, organisational frameworks, structure and culture impacts the organisation alongside
            organisational policies, procedures, practices and strategies including Work, Health and Safety (WHS)/Occupational Health and Safety (OHS).

          FNSCUS513 Review business performance

          • Learn the skills and knowledge required to collect, organise, analyse, investigate and review data to improve the efficiency and quality of performance of a business or business unit. This unit applies to those who use a range of managerial techniques to review and analyse their own work and the work of others to determine required actions.

          PSPREG016 Conduct data analysis

          • Learn the skills and knowledge required to deliver a wide variety of analysis, data collection and management systems and
            the range of analytical techniques appropriate for information analysis. Understand inductive/deductive reasoning processes, the influence of human factors on data analysis and the construction of sound inductive arguments fallacies in reasoning and how data analysis outcomes can contribute to the review of national strategies, plans and public sector legislation

          BSBSTR502 Facilitate continuous improvement

          • Learn the skills and knowledge required to lead and manage continuous improvement systems and processes. Particular emphasis is on the development of systems and the analysis of information to monitor and adjust performance strategies, and to manage opportunities for further improvements. This unit applies to those who take an active role in managing a continuous improvement process in order to achieve an organisation’s objectives. At his level, work will normally be carried out using complex and diverse methods and procedures which require the exercise of considerable discretion and judgment, using a range of problem-solving and decision-making strategies.
