Course Duration

  • 18 months
  • Commence Term 1 2026 and Complete Term 3 2027 (7 Terms)
  • Four units towards your HSC
  • Mandatory 120 hours of work placement
  • Students can sit Vocational HSC exam

 

Entry Requirements

  • Commence in term 1 Year 11
  • Have an interest in field of study and desire to commit to the course requirements
  • Need to be able to complete 120 hours Work Placement, usually in school holidays or other times throughout the school term as approved by your school
  • Need to provide evidence of current vaccinations including COVID-19 and Flu*
  • Need to obtain approval from your School Career Advisor

 

*Employers have varied requirements and we encourage students to undertake own research on the additional vaccinations required to work in Allied Health or Health related professions

Delivery Methods

Blended learning including:

  • Face-to-face classroom delivery at school
  • Work-placement of 120 hours in a real workplace

 

Theory and Practical assessment including:

  • Knowledge theory tasks and
  • Practical demonstration

Nationally Recognised Training (NRT)

  • HLT33021 Certificate III in Allied Health Assistance is a Nationally Recognised Qualification.
  • On successful completion of this qualification, you will be issued with an Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) Certificate and Record of Results.

BSBMED301 Interpret and apply medical terminology appropriately
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to understand and respond to instructions; to carry out routine tasks and communicate with a range of internal/external clients in a medical environment; as well as use appropriate medical terminology.

CHCCCS002 Assist with movement
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to support people who require assistance with basic physical movement which may be due to incapacity.

CHCCCS010 Maintain a high standard of service
This unit describes the skills and knowledge to deliver and maintain a high standard of service.

CHCCCS020 Respond effectively to behaviours of concern
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to respond effectively to behaviours of concern of people. Skills are associated with handling difficult incidents rather than managing ongoing behaviour difficulties.

CHCCCS038 Facilitate the empowerment of people receiving support
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to facilitate the empowerment of people receiving support, and to deliver rights-based services using a person-centred approach.

CHCCOM005 Communicate and work in health or community services
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, management and other industry providers.

CHCDIV001 Work with diverse people
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to work respectfully with people from diverse social and cultural groups and situations, including Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.

HLTAAP001 Recognise healthy body systems
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to work with basic information about the human body and to recognise and promote ways to maintain healthy functioning of the body.

HLTAHA027 Assist with an allied health program*
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide assistance to an Allied Health Professional. Work includes following treatment plans for therapeutic interventions or conducting programs.

HLTAHA049 Recognise impact of health conditions
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to recognise the impact of health conditions of a person undertaking an intervention or therapy program. Work includes using a basic understanding of the human body to assist in interpreting information about person’s health status to promote ways to maintain a healthy functioning of the body.

HLTINF006 Apply basic principles and practices of infection prevention and control
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to apply basic infection prevention and control principles in work settings including implementing standard and transmission-based precautions and responding to risks.

HLTWHS001 Participate in workplace health and safety
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required for workers to participate in safe work practices to ensure their own health and safety, and that of others.

*You will be required to perform the activities outlined inHLTAHA027 Assist with an allied health program during 120 hours of supervised allied health assistance work placement.
