The Building health equity and cultural safety in Aotearoa/New Zealand short course has been developed in partnership with Practice Managers & Administrators Association of New Zealand (PMAANZ) and is suitable for all staff, GP’s, Nurses and Doctors within the medical practice.
This short course covers topics such as the social determinants of health, implicit bias, using data and tools to evaluate equity, leadership to achieve equity, patient and whanau-centred care, health literacy and Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles.

Students upon successful completion of these two modules in this short course will receive a Certificate of Completion.
This module introduces equity in healthcare, including the contributing factors and barriers to achieving equity in health outcomes for disadvantaged groups. It discusses the strategic context of health equity, and introduces specific tools to define, measure and implement effective strategies to support staff in understanding health equity and how to achieve it for your community.
This module introduces cultural safety as a high priority strategy to achieving equity in health outcomes for disadvantaged groups with a specific focus on providing culturally safe healthcare environments for Māori, thereby meeting the practice’s obligations under the Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
