This short course outlines Managing Sustainable Facilities within Facilities Management, empowering the learner with the requisite confidence, skills and knowledge to meet these requirements within the workplace.
It covers the following three units:
Sustainable Facilities Management is about incorporating sustainability practices into the operations and implementation of facilities management functions. This short course will show you how to manage and evaluate sustainability, and to develop and plan facility maintenance and management.
This short course has been developed by the Facility Management Association of Australia in conjunction with UNE Partnerships and industry Subject Matter Experts (SMEs).
It has been designed to meet the skills and knowledge required for facilities managers who lead, manage and maintain internal and external facility operation teams and services.

Students upon successful completion of these three units in this short course will receive a Statement of Attainment.
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to project manage an energy audit within a business environment, to provide a quantitative overview of energy performance and determining opportunities for improvement. This unit applies to employees who apply knowledge of the industry being audited to procure a team with specialised theoretical and technical expertise. Employees will need well-developed skills to work autonomously with discretion and judgement. Sustainability may be the employee’s primary work responsibility or part of a broader role.
This unit provides the skills and knowledge required to analyse and implement improvements to the environmental sustainability of work practices and monitor their effectiveness.
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to review energy use, and develop objectives, strategies and action plans for improved energy management in an organisation. It includes implementation and permanent monitoring as well as consultation and collaboration with key stakeholders throughout the process. This unit applies to operational and technical specialists, managers or similar who combine detailed knowledge of energy management with critical thinking, communication, and planning and organisational skills to develop and implement plans for improved energy management. Energy management responsibilities may be part of a broader work role or a primary job role. In some cases, the individual may work as an external advisor.
